“It is always a sign of a deep spiritual sickness when a church forgets its fathers.”

C.F.W. Walther is the greatest Lutheran theologian/churchman in the history of American Lutheranism. That is an audacious statement, to be sure, but through Walther’s dogged faithfulness to the scriptures, the Lutheran Confessions, and the writings of Martin Luther, there was produced a church body which in its public confession has remained faithful to the Formula of Concord to the present day, even when most others have long since surrendered Lutheran doctrine and clarity.
